Dr. Robert Epstein

Artificial Intelligence and Sentient bots

Our guest is professor, author, researcher and psychologist Dr. Robert Epstein.

Dr. Epstein is the co-founder of The Loebner Prize . In this episode we examine the cognitive and psychological aspects of our interaction with bots today. How do they fool us into thinking they are human and why? Do we really understand human intelligence enough? Dr. Epstein argues that the brain is not like a computer and as long as we think it is, our models for creating human-like computers are misguided. Will AI driven robots emerge that can feel pain, experience emotion and/or other aspects of being a sentient being? If AI development proceeds on its current course, what are the potential consequences? Will Stephen Hawking’s misgivings prove to be prescient?

Join us for a lively discussion.
